Something Blue, One Day Too: How I Flew in for a 24-Hour Bridal Shower Moment (and You Can Too)!!

Let’s be real — when your sister, bestie, or chosen sister says “Will you be my bridesmaid?” there’s really only one answer: YES!

Even if that means flying cross-country, squeezing into a jam-packed schedule, and attending a bridal shower on 2 hours of sleep before hopping on a return flight the next day. That’s exactly what I did for my sister Cassie — and honestly, I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

Cassie and her fiancĂ© Chris have been together for 6 years, and when he proposed to her during her reign as Miss DC USA 2023, I knew this wedding would be something special. I couldn’t make it to the proposal, but when she asked me to be a bridesmaid, I knew I’d make every effort to show up — even if just for a whirlwind 24 hours.

The Bridal Shower Theme: “Something Blue Before I Do”

Let’s talk about the adorable theme — pastel blues, delicate florals, soft silver accents, and yes, a slight resemblance to a baby boy’s shower (we laughed about it, so you can too!). But trust me, the energy was full-on bride mode: elegant, heartfelt, and fun. Cassie radiated that perfect mix of pageant queen poise and future-wife glow.

If you're a busy bridesmaid trying to make the most of your time — here’s how to maximize your impact, minimize your stress, and help create a memorable shower even when you're flying in and out like a bridal fairy godmother.

Top Tips to Recreate This “Something Blue” Shower Theme:

1. Use Shades of Dusty Blue, White Florals, and Silver Accents
This combo feels airy, romantic, and timeless. Think light blue table runners, baby’s breath and white roses, silver charger plates, and sheer tulle for added softness.

2. Create a Signature Mocktail or Cocktail
We had a fun little “Blushing Bride Blueberry Spritz” — super cute, super easy, and it matched the vibe perfectly. You could even freeze blueberries in ice cubes for extra detail.

3. Polaroid Guest Book or Keepsake Station
Set up a small station where guests can snap photos and leave heartfelt messages. It's a sweet way to make memories that go beyond Instagram.

4. Keep Games Cute, Quick & Personal
We did a mini trivia game about the couple that had everyone laughing (and a little emotional). No over-the-top activities needed — just moments that spark connection.

5. Prioritize Lighting + Seating for Photo Magic
Good lighting = great memories. Even a small ring light near the cake table can elevate the whole experience. Arrange a small seating nook for candid, cozy group pics.

Bonus Tips for Busy Bridesmaids On the Go:

  • Pack Your Look in Advance: I pre-planned my outfit, shoes, glam bag, and gifts to save time. A garment bag is your best friend here.

  • Time Block with Wiggle Room: Flights run late, hair goes flat — plan ahead with buffer time if possible.

  • Be Present Over Perfect: Don’t stress if you miss setup. Your presence, your support, your smile — those are the most powerful gifts you can give.

  • Coordinate with the MOH or Shower Host: Let them know your limited availability so they can plug you in for the moments that count.

Cassie’s shower reminded me that showing up doesn’t always mean having the most time — sometimes, it’s about making the most of the time you do have.

To all the bridesmaids out there juggling flights, work, glam, and real life: you’re doing amazing. Be proud of the love you bring to these moments — even if you only have 24 hours to do it.

Wheels up. Heart full. Something blue checked off!
